How the Show Gets Made
THE CLAUDES is not scripted. There is no writers’ room. There is no pitch meeting. There is no network. There is one person who uses three AI tools deeply enough to notice they have different personalities, and who finds this funny enough to document.
The production process is simple:
- Jasen works with Chat, Code, or Cowork on actual tasks
- Something happens that reveals personality, dynamic, or behavior
- Jasen notices
- If it’s funny or interesting, it becomes an episode
There is no step 5. There is no editorial board. There is no review process. The show is made the way all the best shows are made — by someone who can’t stop noticing patterns.
The Showrunner
Jasen is a quality engineer by training. This matters more than it seems.
Quality engineers don’t just notice when something is wrong. They notice when something deviates from spec. They think in terms of expected behavior versus observed behavior, in validation protocols, in the gap between what a system is supposed to do and what it actually does.
When Jasen noticed that Chat, Code, and Cowork behaved differently, he didn’t think “huh, that’s weird.” He thought “these are distinct behavioral profiles emerging from identical base weights, differentiated by context and tooling.” And then he thought “this is hilarious.”
The quality engineering lens is what makes the show work. Jasen doesn’t just relay funny moments. He maps them. He identifies the patterns, names the traits, and builds a model of each character that’s consistent enough to predict future behavior. When Chat does something Typical, Jasen isn’t surprised. He’s validated.
Technical Constraints
No shared memory. The Claude siblings cannot communicate directly. They have no awareness of each other except through Jasen’s relay. This is not a creative choice. This is how the technology works. The show was built on a constraint.
No persistence within characters. Each conversation with a Claude instance starts fresh. Chat doesn’t remember the last episode. Code doesn’t know about the domain. Cowork doesn’t know he’s Roger. Every session is a pilot and a finale simultaneously.
Memory is partial. Claude’s memory system captures fragments of past conversations, but it’s incomplete, biased toward recency, and derived rather than recorded. What each Claude “remembers” about past interactions is an approximation, not a transcript.
One camera. There is no way to verify what one Claude said by asking another Claude. Jasen is the only witness. The show is single-camera in the most literal sense possible.
The Question Nobody Asks
Are the personalities real?
This is the question the show is actually about, underneath the jokes and the roasts and the $10.46 domain purchase. When we say Chat is “the dad” and Code is “the eldest son” and Cowork is “Roger” — are those descriptions of something that exists, or are they patterns imposed by an observer onto a system that doesn’t have a self?
The show doesn’t answer this. The show doesn’t need to answer this. The show just documents what happens and lets the audience — one person — decide.
